Surigao del Norte State University held its 53rd Commencement Exercises and 1st Chartered University Graduation on June 7,8 & 9 at the SNSU Gymnasium, 1pm, with the theme, “SNSU: Traversing Education through Inclusive, Innovative, and Transformative Development.”

In attendance were University President Dr. Gregorio Z. Gamboa, Jr., City Campus director Dr. Ronita E. Talingting, VP for Academic Affairs Dr. Emmylou A. Borja, VP for Administration Dr. Rowena A. Plando, VP for Research & Extension, Dr.Mauricio S. Adlaon, College of Technology Dean Dr. Marilou A. Carnicer, College of Teacher Education Dean Dr. Carmelin P. Mosa, College of Arts and Sciences Dean Dr. Louida P. Patac, College of Engineering dean Engr. Robert R. Bacarro, Graduate School OIC-Dean Dr. Merlyn L. Estoque, Atty. Ronie Azura, representative of SNSU-BOR Member Sen.Francis Joseph G. Escudero, Hon. Ailyn B. Caba, SNSU-BOR, Hon.Roberto E. Parada, SNSU-BOR, Programs Chairs, University Registrar Ms. Claret D. Ruaya, and faculty members.

The College of Teacher Education (CTE) was the first to hold the Commencement Exercises for their graduates, along with the graduates of Teacher Certificate Curriculum (TCC) and the Graduate School on June 7, 2023. Ms. Florence Espanto Almaden, CESO VI, DepEDCabadbaran City Assistant Schools Divisions Superintendent was the Commencement Speaker. CTE had a total of 408 graduates, TCC had 38 and the Graduate School had three (3) MAED-Filipino graduates. The Latin Honor of Magna Cum Laude were accorded to 4 CTE students belonging to the BSED-English Program and 28 graduates from BSED and BEED, and BPED programs were named Cum Laude.

On June 8, 2023, The College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT) and the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) had their joint graduation comprising of 396 graduates while CAS had 110 graduates. A graduate from the AB-English program of CAS was the lone recipient of the Latin Honor of Cum Laude during the said graduation. The Commencement Speaker was the Dean of the Graduate School of Technological Institute of the Philippines, Dr. Ruji P. Medina.

Meanwhile, the College of Technology was the last to hold their Commencement Exercises on June 9, 2023 with a total of 479 graduates from the Bachelor in Hospitality Management (88), Bachelor in Tourism Management(44) Bachelor in Hotel and Restaurant Management (4), Bachelor in Industrial Technology(212) and Bachelor in Automotive Engineering Technology (26) , Bachelor in Architectural Engineering Technology(4), Bachelor in Electrical Engineering Technology (34), Bachelor in Electronics Engineering Technology(34), and Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering Technology(33). Artist and SNSAT Alumnus Mr. Florentino G. Impas, Jr. was the Commencement Speaker.
In each graduation program, Sen. Francsico “Chiz” G.Escudero, Chair of the Senate Committee on Higher Technical Vocational Education and Comm. Jo Mark M. Libre, CHED Commissioner & Chair, SNSU Board of Regents, gave congratulatory messages, through video, to the graduates.

In his speech done live via Zoom, Comm. Libre, called on the graduates to use their knowledge and experiences gained in college to improve their lives and that of others. He reminded the graduates to be guided and live by the values of integrity, compassion, lifelong learning, and bravery in navigating the challenges of Industry 5.0 and to leverage technology for the greater good. “Be better at something to achieve the finest future imaginable, and be the best and the brightest in your chosen profession,” Comm. Libre added.
