SNSU successfully conducted a three-day training-workshop on Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) syllabus and instructional materials (IM) development on July 23–25, 2025, at the SNSU Gymnasium. This initiative marks a milestone in the formal linkage between SNSU and Philippine Normal University-Mindanao (PNU-Mindanao), reflecting the shared commitment of both institutions to advancing curriculum quality in the region.
PNU-Mindanao, led by its Executive Director and Provost, Dr. Adelyne Costelo-Abrea, deployed a team of seasoned curriculum experts—Prof. June R. Dumanhug, Prof. Jeannette T. Gongora, and Dr. Uni Grace P. Porras—to serve as mentors. They guided SNSU program chairs and faculty in aligning course learning outcomes with SNSU’s institutional vision, mission, and graduate attributes. The team shared best practices in curriculum design, particularly in crafting course syllabi, and demonstrated how to integrate concepts of global citizenship and gender and development (GAD). They also provided insights into designing high-quality and effective instructional materials.
SNSU faculty members also contributed their insights as part of the collaborative mentoring model. Dr. Louella S. Degamon, Director for International Affairs, emphasized the core principles of OBE and learner-centered teaching. Dir. Kier L. Ecle, Director for Academics in Del Carmen Campus, provided practical guidance on designing complex multiple-choice test questions to assess higher-order thinking skills. Dr. Raymon P. Española, Director for Curriculum Development, shared strategies on maximizing generative AI tools in teaching and learning through prompt engineering.
The training culminated with the presentation of sample course syllabi and prototype instructional materials by selected faculty: Ms. Princes Grace A. Retita (Values Education for BEED), Mr. Ricky T. Osorio (Operations Research for BSMath), and Mr. Johnny Rey Libay (a major course in Automotive Engineering Technology). These outputs will serve as exemplars for future instructional development initiatives across SNSU campuses.
The Curriculum Development Office (CDO) sincerely extends its appreciation to all who supported and participated in this learning and development event—from the top management led by University President Dr. Rowena A. Plando, along with the VPs, CDs, and Deans, to the hardworking staff who ensured the smooth conduct of the activity.
This event is only the beginning of a transformative partnership between SNSU and PNU-Mindanao, as both institutions continue working toward academic excellence and innovation in higher education.
