𝘑𝘶𝘭𝘺 31, 2025 – A two-part Metals & Engineering Innovation Center (MEIC) launching ceremony began with a short program held at Surigao del Norte Provincial Gym. The ceremony was joined in person by DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr., who served as the keynote speaker.

During her welcome remarks, the University President, Dr. Rowena A. Plando underscored the university’s steadfast commitment to advancing research and innovation. Dr. Plando addressed, “As we inaugurate this MEIC today, let us remember: this is not just a product of grants or equipment. It is a manifestation of a shared dream—a regional ecosystem where innovation thrives, industries grow, and lives are improved.” She emphasized that SNSU’s partnership with DOST extends far beyond this center.

The projects, undertaken in partnership with the DOST, reflect SNSU’s unwavering dedication to serving Surigao del Norte, the Caraga Region, and the entire Filipino nation—through innovation, education, and robust partnerships.

Present as well were DOST Undersecretary for Regional Operations Sancho A. Mabborang, who gave an opening message; DOST Caraga Regional Director Noel M. Ajoc, who introduced the keynote speaker; Executive Director of Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC), who presented an insightful overview of the MEIC, and SB Member Hon. Kaizer B. Recabo Jr. Expressions of support were given by Gigaquit Mayor Chandru Bonite, Surigao Del Norte Congresswoman Hon. Bernadette Barbers duly represented by her Chief of Staff Liza Monteros, followed by Governor Lyndon S. Barbers represented by Provincial Administrator Atty. Rise Faith Recabo.

The launch of the Metals and Engineering Innovation Center signals the beginning of a stronger, more resilient innovation ecosystem in Caraga Region. With the continued collaboration of government, academe, and local stakeholders, the MEIC stands as a beacon of progress geared to forge opportunities, empower industries, and shape a future where science and technology drive inclusive growth.
