๐ฝ๐‘ข๐‘™๐‘ฆ 31, 2025 โ€“ A milestone in innovation and local enterprise development unfolded today as Surigao del Norte State University (SNSU), in partnership with Department of Science and Technology (DOST), the Local Government of Gigaquit and the Province of Surigao del Norte officially held a launching ceremony for Gigaquit Rum Distillery in Gigaquit.

The launching of Gigaquit Rum Distillery was spearheaded by Gigaquit Mayor Chandru T. Bonite which showcases Gigaquitโ€™s creativity to transform its agricultural potential into high value products that can compete in broader markets.

The launch ceremony was graced by DOST Secretary Dr. Renato Solidum Jr., who lauded the initiative as a model for rural enterprise development anchored in science, technology, and education. Also in attendance for the unveiling of distillery marker were Surigao del Norte Governor Lyndon S. Barbers, DOST Usec. Sancho A. Mabborang, Executive Director of MIRDC Engr. Robert O. Dizon, DOST Caraga Regional Director Engr. Noel M. Ajoc, and SNSU Officials led by SNSU President Dr. Rowena A. Plando who emphasized SNSUโ€™s commitment to supporting community-based industries through innovation and collaboration.

The Gigaquit Rum Distillery stands as a testament to how academic institutions, government agencies, and LGUs can work together to spark rural progress and craft a distinct local product rooted in heritage, quality, and community pride.
