Surigao State College of Technology, now Surigao Norte State University, held its first in-person commencement exercises since the pandemic for Batch 2022 graduates.

The 52nd Commencement Exercises with the theme” Quality Education through Innovation and Creativity” was held in batches at the College gymnasium in the afternoon of June 27, 28, and 30, 2022 for Teacher Certificate Curriculum (TCC) and College of Teacher Education (CTE), College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) and College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT), and College of Technology (COT), respectively. Baccalaureate Mass was celebrated in the morning where the traditional Hooding Ceremony was conducted.

The separate events were graced by the respective Commencement Speakers.  Dr. George M. Colorado, Regional Director of CHED-Caraga, served as the Commencement Speaker for Day 1, Dr. Criseldo C. Calinawan, Education Supervisor II of CHED-Caraga, for Day 2, and Mr. Joel Yala, CEO and President of ChocoVron Global Corp., for Day 3.  In attendance also were Dr. Gregorio Z. Gamboa, College President, Vice Presidents, Deans, Program Chairs, members of the Board of Trustees, faculty, and guests, but sans the parents and loved ones—to lessen COVID-19 related concerns—who could view nonetheless the livestream of the ceremonies via the official SNSU Facebook page.

This year’s graduates of the City campus who successfully finished the requirements for Academic Year 2021-2022 totaled 2,278 of which 2,244 were conferred with bachelor degrees and 34 with certificates (TCC). The Graduate School, on the other hand, will have its separate graduation ceremonies slated on July 19, 2022.

SSCT-City Class of 2022 was led by 91 Latin honorees- the highest number recorded in the institution’s history. BSED-Filipino yielded two magna cum laudes, BSHRM produced one magna cum laude, and BSED with 51 out of 88 cum laudes. Other cum laudes are from BEED (16), BPED (1), BTVTED (6), BSHM (2), BSIT (1), ABEL (6), and BSES (1).

Representing the Graduating Class, Mr. April Joy Achas, BSED-Filipino Magna Cum Luade, thanks the parents and the faculty who have guided them throughout their academic journey and reminds his co-candidates not “to give up in pursuing our dreams” in his Welcome Address.

Dr. Emmylou A. Borja, VP for Academic Affairs, certifies the completion of the requirements of the candidates.

 

The College President, Dr. Gregorio Z. Gamboa, Jr., confers the degrees to the candidates.

 

Dr. George M. Colorado, Regional Director of CHED-Caraga, points out on the graduates that life is not about getting rich nor about becoming famous but is about making a “good” name for oneself as he delivers his Commencement Speech.

In his Welcome Address, Mr. Harold G. Concilles, ABEL Cum Laude, recounts how he almost loses hope when they lost their humble home to Typhoon Odette but adds that SSCT has taught him to be persistent and positive in faith.

 

Dr. Criseldo C. Calinawan, Education Supervisor II of CHED-Caraga, delivers his Commencement Speech. He encourages the graduates to work hard for their dreams. He further advises them to be creative and responsive to the change of time especially in this era of Industry 5.0.
