August 14–15, 2025 — Surigao del Norte State University (SNSU) joined University Presidents, Education Leaders, and Quality Assurance Experts nationwide at the Presidents’ Summit 2025, held on August 14–15, 2025 at the Century Park Hotel in Malate, Manila.

Among the distinguished guests was Hon. Shirley C. Agrupis, Chairman of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Honorable Chair of SNSU- Board of Regents who served as keynote speaker. In her address, Dr. Agrupis underscored the vital role of accreditation on CHED ACHIEVE Framework.

The event also featured former CHED Commissioner Dr. Lilian A. De Las Llagas, who delivered a keynote on the “Introduction and Contextualization of the New Framework for Quality Assurance and Accreditation”, setting the stage for in-depth discussions on institutional quality and global competitiveness.

On the second day, Hon. Jude Acidre, Chair of the House Committee on Higher and Technical Education, delivered an insightful talk on “Quality Assurance and Accreditation: New Framework, New Directions in Higher Education”, highlighting policy directions and legislative priorities to strengthen the country’s education system.

Representing SNSU were University President Dr. Rowena A. Plando, along with the Vice Presidents – Dr. Maurico S. Adlaon (Administration), Dr. Ronita E. Talingting (Academic Affairs), and Dr. Romy Jun A. Sunico (Research Innovation & Extension). Ms. Yasmin Tiu is with them as well, the Quality Assurance Management System (QAMS) In-charge. The SNSU delegation actively participated in plenary sessions and engaged with peers to forge stronger academic linkages.

Key topics included aligning institutional strategies with international benchmarks, introducing the new framework for quality assurance and accreditation, and presenting updated AACCUP and Teacher Education Standards.

The event served as a platform for SNSU to strengthen its commitment to academic excellence, continuous improvement, and active engagement in shaping the future of Philippine higher education.
