On October 30, 2024, the Baybay Magallanes Child Development Center in Barangay Washington was buzzing with excitement as the College of Teacher Education (CTE) officially launched its “Adopt a Daycare Center” Extension Program. The program aims to support early childhood education and create meaningful learning experiences for young learners.

The event began with a warm welcome from the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) office and the daycare staff, setting the stage for an engaging day of activities. One of the highlights was the read-aloud session led by CTE’s preservice teachers, who captivated the children with lively storytelling. Using animated voices, big gestures, and expressive faces, they made the stories come to life. The children listened intently, laughed, and eagerly joined in by predicting story endings and answering questions.

The program also included small-group tutorials where the children received extra help in reading and writing. Teachers worked closely with the children, focusing on skills such as letter recognition, phonics, vocabulary, and sentence construction. The personalized approach helped boost the children’s confidence and made learning feel fun and interactive. To support the lessons, the teachers used creative teaching tools like flashcards, storyboards, and puppets. Educational games like letter bingo and word puzzles kept the activities exciting, while hands-on materials such as sandpaper letters and magnetic letters made learning more engaging.

The day ended with a short commitment ceremony where the CTE team pledged to continue their support for the daycare center.
