COT Extension Program Empowers Barangay Mabuhay with Skills in CCTV Installation and Maintenance

On September 28, 2024, a community extension initiative focused on CCTV Installation and Maintenance commenced at the Barangay Hall of Mabuhay, Sison, Surigao del Norte. The program was a collaborative effort between the Bachelor in Electronics Engineering Technology (BEXET) and the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Mabuhay, aimed at equipping participants with technical skills that could enhance their employability. The morning session began with an opening prayer and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem. Hon. Dariel G. Eltagonde delivered the opening message, expressing the BLGU’s commitment to community empowerment. Pungon Barangay Hon. Julie V. Dangate also emphasized the importance of skill development in driving community progress.

The day’s activities started with a presentation by Dr. Leopoldo G. Besinio Jr., the BEXET Community Extension Coordinator, who explained the rationale and objectives of the program. His discussion covered key topics, including closed-circuit television (CCTV) installation, capacity building, community safety, and local engagement. The first training module focused on Basic Electronics, where Dr. Besinio introduced essential tools such as multimeters, soldering irons, and electronic components. He illustrated schematic symbols and their practical applications. After lunch, the hands-on session emphasized soldering techniques and wire splicing, allowing participants to apply their learning in real time. By the end of the day, participants had developed confidence in their foundational electronics skills.

The second day resumed with a safety session led by Dr. Cecilia E. Arcon, a BEXET faculty member. The session included video presentations depicting common electrical hazards to underscore the importance of workplace safety. The interactive discussion allowed participants to share their insights and ask questions. In the afternoon, Dr. Michael P. Yujoco delivered a lecture on using and reading multimeters. He explained how to measure resistance, voltage, and current, followed by a practical exercise where participants conducted actual measurements. With guidance from Dr. Besinio and Ms. Aurea Madelo, participants analyzed their readings and honed their technical knowledge, reinforcing the importance of precision and accuracy.

The program, which spans multiple sessions in October, has been met with positive feedback from attendees who praised the program for its practical relevance and engaging format. The training on CCTV installation and maintenance is set to continue, equipping participants with vital skills to support local security and employment initiatives. By fostering technical competence and community engagement, the extension program highlights the pivotal role of education in empowering communities and driving sustainable development in Barangay Mabuhay.
