The Quality Management System Office spearheaded the 2-day Awareness and Foundation Course on Philippine Quality Awards (PQA) and the Criteria for Performance Excellence on February 15-16, 2024 at the Philippine Gateway Hotel, Surigao City.

The event was the first engagement activity of the university with the PQA, the highest national recognition for exemplary organizational performance of private and public organizations in the country. It is a global competitiveness template that aims to encourage and engage organizations and other stakeholders to strive for and attain performance excellence.

Dr. Rowena A. Plando, the Vice President for Administration, expressed that the endeavor is a part of university’s strategic goal for 2024– to strictly implement reforms to sustain good governance and operation compliant to SUC leveling institutional accreditation and Philippine Quality Award. She further underscored that “in today’s fast-paced and competitive environment, it is crucial for organizations to strive for continuous improvement and excellence in all aspects of our operations”.

The hundred participants from the City, Malimono, Mainit and Del Carmen campuses composed of the top management, heads of offices, deans, and program chairs underwent workshops facilitated by the Resource Persons– Mr. Juan C. Aquino, Jr., assessor of PQA and President and CEO of AQM Management Consultancy Services; Ms. Jacqui Joanna B. Aquino; and Ms. Lorelei D. Gabilo, in preparation for SNSU to be subjected for assessment.

The highlight of the 1st engagement activity was the interaction and discussion of the participants who were grouped into the seven (7) categories of criteria for performance excellence– Leadership, Strategy, Customers, Measurement, Analysis and Knowledge, Management, Workforce, Operations, and Results. With their leader or “champions”, they brainstormed ideas and answered the questions set in each category.

“The 2-day orientation has been a remarkable journey towards understanding and bracing the principles of excellence that the PQA champions. I am confident that the insights gained will propel us toward a culture of continuous improvement”, said Ms. Leonielyn G. Malicay, the OIC Director of SNSU’s IQA/QMS.

The groups will meet again for the next five engagements until May of this year.
