SNSU’s Primera Eskwela Kicks Off Academic Year 2025-2026

SNSU marked the opening of the Academic Year 2025-2026 through its β€œPrimera Eskwela” program across all campuses- Main Campus, Malimono Campus, Del Carmen Campus, Mainit Campus , Claver Campus, and SNSU Dinagat Extension on August 18, 2024. In the main campus, the program started with a mass officiated by Fr. Gun Real Omega,DCS, at the university gymnasium.

The program proper began with an invocation followed by the singing of the Lupang Hinirang, the ASEAN hymn, Bagong Pilipinas Hymn, and SNSU Hymn led by the SNSU Chorale. Students from the BPED Program ( Bachelor of Physical Education ) did the dance opening salvo. Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ronita E. Talingting delivered the Welcome Address. In her speech, Dr. Talingting pointed out that the event rolled into one, four important milestones: the Primera Eskwela, Induction of Newly- Hired Faculty, Staff & the Newly- Promoted, Buwan ng Wika and ASEAN Month celebrations. Dr. Talingting encouraged everyone to share in the responsibility of a shared vision of academic excellence.

Human Resource Management Officer Mr. Jangilbirth C. Ubalde introduced the newly-hired faculty and staff and the newly-promoted and asked them come up on stage for the oath-taking, officiated by University President, Dr. Rowena A. Plando. The President then delivered an inspirational message addressing the audience. She assured the students that the University will provide the resources and support for them to thrive and have a meaningful learning experience while in SNSU. Turning to the newly-hired faculty and staff, Dr. Plando said, β€œMy sincere congratulations! You are now an integral part of the SNSU family. This is not just a job; it’s a shared commitment to building a better future for our students and our community. We hired you because we see the potential in you, that you can deliver what is expected of you and will help the university achieve its vision and mission.”

In the meantime, the University Student Council, led by its president, Student Regent Angelo L. Rodriguez, played an audio-visual presentation showcasing the physical facilities of the University as well as the key features and strengths of the four Colleges- College of Teacher Education, College of Arts and Sciences, and the soon-to-be renamed College of Engineering and Information Technology, and College of Technology.

Other highlights of the program included the ASEAN parade with select students from each Colleges wearing the traditional costume of Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, & Thailand. Dr. Louella S. Degamon, Director for International Affairs, then presented the activities lined up for the ASEAN month.

In the afternoon, the USC held its First General Assembly at the same venue.

It is hoped that the enthusiasm shown during the first day of school will cascade into every classroom and space as administrators, faculty, staff, and students work together to foster a strong sense of community where everyone feels supported, included and empowered to succeed this academic year and beyond.
