Aligned with its mandate to prepare scholars for the roles as future innovators and problem-solvers, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Caraga successfully held a one-day Design Thinking Workshop for SDN scholars on November 14, 2025 at the DOST Provincial Science and Technology Office of Surigao del Norte (DOST-PSTO SDN) Innovation Hub.
The workshop brought together students from various Engineering and Education programs, reinforcing their understanding of user-centered innovation and providing practical tools for developing solutions grounded in real community and market needs.
Senior Science Research Specialist Engr. Emman Lliam L. Prisco led sessions covering startup fundamentals, Customer Personas, the Value Proposition Canvas, and the Business Model Canvas. Through these modules, scholars gained insights into how ideas progress into meaningful innovations through empathy, validation, and strategic planning.
Participants also explored AI-assisted prototyping using Lovable AI, enabling them to convert their concepts into visual website mock-ups. This hands-on activity helped scholars better understand user flow, interface design, and overall user experience.
With initiatives like this, DOST continues to cultivate an innovation-driven mindset among its scholarsโequipping them to design sustainable, impactful, and community-responsive solutions that contribute to inclusive development.
