Surigao del Norte State University on Monday held the opening of its annual Intramural Games and Socio-Cultural Games dubbed “ PALAKASAN 2025”, November 24-28,2025 participated in by faculty and students from the College of Teacher Education(Azure Deers), College of Arts and Sciences( Green Mantis), College of Engineering( Crimson Lions), College of Computing and Information System( Purple Orcas), and College of Business and Technology( Black Bulls).
The theme for this year’s Intramurals is “ Harnessing the Magic Within: Uniting Strength, Passion, and Culture in the Quest for Excellence through the Spirit of Sportmanship.” The celebration started with a holy mass officiated by Rev. Fr. Perfecto Ecat, DCS, who, in his homily, told students to share the talents given by God by participating in the different games and activities.
Due to the heavy rains brought about by Typhoon Verbena, the parade around the city did not push and the opening ceremony of the Intramurals was moved to the Provincial Gymnasium to accommodate the entire 7,152 student population.
On behalf of University President Dr. Rowena A. Plando, Vice-President Dr. Ronita E. Talingting delivered the Welcome Address which was followed by the hoisting of the University banner and that of the Colleges. The Oath of Sportmanship was led bv Noreen Xavier M. Argente, a Gold Medalist in Karatedo Women during the MASTS ( Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools) 2025 in Oroquieta City followed by the Oath of the Officiating Officials by Mr. Denzel Mark A. Ciruela, CTE Team manager for Badminton. The Lighting of the Urn was led by Ademyr Clor, Silver Medalist in the MASTS Athletic Events.
The College of Teacher Education was declared champion in the Cheer Dance Competition while Ms. Shaina Cagata from the College of Engineering and Kevin Mijares of CTE was crowned Mr. and Miss Intrams 2025.
As the province was under Storm Signal No.1 due to “Verbena”, the scheduled games and activities in the afternoon were cancelled but are due to resume once the weather improves.
